Martha M.

was in Newnan, GA on 9/11/01.

On the morning of September 11, 2001, I was sitting at my desk at Cargill. I was holding a morning meeting with two staff members when my phone rang. Excusing myself, I answered. It was my husband. “Turn on the TV or internet there. Something terrible is happening.” He then described what had just happened according to the news. The first plane hit. TV coverage of the next plane followed.

We hung up promising to stay in touch. Our General Manager, Brad Down, then gathered us all for a meeting of what he knew at that point.

Our prayer group prayed.

A generation of Americans has no memory of 9/11. Stories like Martha's help them remember.

At the Gary Sinise Foundation, we're preserving the stories of those who experienced it so they can be shared with generations to come. We must never forget the pain we endured, the heroism we witnessed, or the togetherness we felt.

Your story is part of our history. Will you share it?
